Rohan, Part Six: The River's Wrath
Feet pounding along the spongy ground and heart racing, Rohan could think of little else than the terror Jeb must be feeling as he was getting swept downstream. At first he couldn’t spot the dog, but after a few hundred metres Jeb’s head exploded from the water in a fit of flailing paws. Initially Rohan felt the relief at seeing this might overwhelm him, but then he noticed the dog was coughing up mouthful after mouthful of water as he struggled to keep his head above the torrents of the river, and realised that the danger wasn’t over yet.
“Jeb!” he called out as he continued running, “Jeb, I’m coming!”
Rohan’s logical and strategic mind kicked in amongst the chaos of his feelings, and for the first time since he left the cave he felt a sense of calm settling over him.
